Some projects leave a lasting impression because of their scale. Others because of what they mean to the people who use them.
The completion of the new palliative care unit at Wyong Hospital represents more than the delivery of a healthcare facility. It provides patients, families and healthcare professionals with a purpose-built environment designed to support compassionate, contemporary end of life care.
Delivered as part of the NSW Government's World Class End of Life Care Program, Renascent transformed an existing hospital space into a dedicated palliative care unit featuring 12 bedrooms with ensuites, staff and support facilities, family lounges, recreational areas, landscaped courtyards and outdoor decking.
Completing major refurbishment works inside a live hospital demands precision long before construction begins.
With operational wards surrounding the site, every stage of the project was carefully coordinated to minimise disruption to patients, staff and hospital operations. Noise restrictions, controlled access, disruption notifications and detailed stakeholder coordination ensured healthcare services remained the priority throughout delivery.
Through early investigations, collaborative planning and rigorous testing, the team identified and managed these potential risks before they could affect delivery.
Healthcare projects demand more than technical expertise. They require an understanding of the people who continue to use these spaces while work is underway.
By maintaining open communication with Health Infrastructure, Capital Insight and hospital stakeholders throughout the project, Renascent delivered a facility that supports modern models of care while protecting the day-to-day operation of the hospital.
The completed palliative care unit will serve the Central Coast community for years to come, providing a calm, welcoming environment where patients receive specialist care, families can spend meaningful time together, and healthcare professionals have the facilities they need to deliver exceptional care.
