The Aspect Autism Spectrum Australia school in Loftus NSW was created to give local children an environment to thrive, as well as offering families much needed support.

The new prefabricated school was constructed on a greenfield site, which brought with it a number of challenges. Once the existing vegetation was removed, the site was cut to the new levels, footings and in ground services were installed. The modular buildings were craned into place whilst retaining walls and COLA were constructed. External levels were then adjusted with external pavements, new awnings, shade structures and landscaping were completed for handover.

Budget was of particular importance, so significant value engineering solutions were essential. Renascent delivered a range of savings which included changing:

  • Retaining walls to core filled blockwork
  • Feature wall to render design
  • Feature ceilings to metal cladding.

And redesigning:

  • Existing hydrant and fire strategy
  • Awnings and shade structures for alternate design
  • Structural review and redesign of pavements and slabs on ground
  • Landscaping review and redesign, reducing plant sizing and scope.
  • All spoil was retained on site and design adjusted to accommodate this.

The completed project has since given the local communities the much needed facilities for children with autism and their families.
