Renascent was proud to partner with St John WA to deliver a full refurbishment of their Belmont site, a project that not only modernised the facility but enhanced its operational efficiency and public presence.

St John WA required a major upgrade to support their growing needs and reflect their critical role in providing emergency and community services across Western Australia. The refurbishment included extensive demolition, structural upgrades, and a high-end fit-out across two floors of their Belmont facility.

The Ground Floor was transformed into a public-facing space featuring a new first aid shop, café, presentation areas, and a purpose-built St John Ambulance Museum, which now proudly showcases the organisation’s history and legacy.

The First Floor was redesigned to create a more efficient and welcoming workspace, complete with open-plan offices, formal meeting rooms, and breakout areas to support collaboration and wellbeing among staff.

One of the most critical challenges was that the building houses St John’s State Operations Centre, the 24/7 control room for triple-zero (000) emergency call handling. This meant that construction activities had to be meticulously planned to ensure zero disruption to live operations.

Our team navigated this by:

  • Implementing detailed staging plans to separate work zones from operational areas.
  • Coordinating closely with the St John WA team to align activities with their workflows.
  • Scheduling noisy or high-impact works outside of peak periods.

Value-Added Approach

Through open communication and early contractor involvement we were able to:

  • Revise pipework layouts to improve visual outcomes by hiding services beneath flooring finishes.
  • Offer value-engineered alternatives to deliver design intent within the client's set budget.
  • Foster a collaborative working relationship with the client team, making issue resolution and design coordination seamless throughout the build.

The project was delivered on time and within budget, with zero disruption to St John WA’s critical 000 operations. The refurbishment significantly improved the functionality, safety, and user experience of the facility, while also introducing a dedicated St John Ambulance Museum to honour the organisation’s history. The successful delivery and collaborative approach led to strong client satisfaction and the awarding of additional project stages.
