Renascent was engaged to deliver a series of refurbishment works within the Prince of Wales Hospital (PoWH) at Randwick Hospitals Campus, comprising three independent milestones concurrently delivered, being: a new Kidney Care Centre, Security and On-Call Accommodation, and Central Equipment Store.
The works form part of the broader Randwick Campus Redevelopment, and transformed recently decanted spaces into modern, purpose-built clinical and operational environments.
Scope of Works
The project involved refurbishment and upgrade works across clinical and non-clinical environments within a live hospital environment including:
- Kidney Care Centre
Refurbishment of a former clinical space within the existing Dickinson Building (Building 15), enabling consolidation of existing renal services into a single, purpose-designed clinical environment. - Security and On-Call Accommodation
Refurbishment of a former clinical space within the existing Dickinson Building (Building 15) enabling delivery a new, purpose-built security department and dedicated on-call accommodation rooms for clinical staff. - Central Equipment Store
Refurbishment of an existing clinical space within the existing Campus Centre Building (Building 16) enabling delivery anew, purpose-built Central Equipment Store.
Across all milestones, Renascent undertook a mix of light, medium and heavy refurbishment including demolition, provision of new service infrastructure and fit out to enable delivery of new contemporary spaces to support hospital operations.
Delivery Approach
Each milestone was staged and handed over independently, to meet overall programme requirements. Our approach focused on:
- Detailed staging and sequencing aligned to hospital operations
- Early coordination of services infrastructure to support construction activities.
- Proactive engagement with PoWH stakeholders
- Flexible programming, including out-of-hours works, to minimise disruption
- Early identification of constructability issues
Early identification of latent conditions and constructibility issues allowed timely resolution and reduced impacts to programme and operations.
