We’re so proud to celebrate one of our own, Deanna, who has been selected as part of the 500 Women in Property program. Deanna’s drive, and commitment to making an impact make her a natural fit for this program, and we can’t wait to see where the journey takes her.

We sat down with Deanna for a quick Q&A to learn more about her and the advice she’d give to other women stepping into the industry.

Q&A with Deanna

What are you most looking forward to learning or experiencing through the program?
“Navigating through tough conversations, listening to other people's experiences, and making my leadership skills better.”

What’s one piece of advice you’d give to other women starting out in the industry?
“Ask as many questions as you have. Knowledge is power and the more you learn from people with experience, the better you will become and the more confidence you’ll have. Don’t be scared to be the person that puts their hand up and says, ‘I'm not sure what that is.’ There may be others in the room feeling the same, and if not, you’re still including yourself in the conversation.”

How do you stay motivated during challenging moments?
“It is difficult, but I find writing down steps to resolve an issue helpful, as well as seeking guidance from others. Discussing challenges and how we can overcome them often brings new perspectives that I hadn’t considered.”

Outside of work, what brings you joy?
“I’m very big on keeping healthy. I enjoy doing anything that gets me outdoors in nature, going for a nice long walk, doing a 5km run with a coffee at the end of it. All very weather-dependent, of course!”

If you had one message to share with the next generation of women in construction, what would it be?
“Don’t be afraid to voice your thoughts. It’s better to ask questions than to stay silent and feel stressed about something you can’t resolve. If you're proactive and trying to move the project forward, people will only see that as a positive.”

Congratulations again, Deanna.
