We are seeking an experienced and commercially astute Commercial Manager based in Melbourne to lead the financial and contractual performance of our construction projects. You will play a key role in ensuring the profitability, compliance, and strategic success of each project. Working closely with clients, subcontractors and consultants, you will be responsible for overseeing commercial operations from pre-construction through to final account.
This role requires a proactive leader with a deep understanding of construction contracts, cost management, and risk mitigation. You will be instrumental in driving value, improving commercial outcomes, and supporting our growing Melbourne Team.
Your duties and responsibilities:
- Commercial Strategy & Planning - Develop and implement commercial strategies aligned with project and business objectives. Provide input into tender submissions, contract negotiations, and procurement planning.
- Cost Management & Procurement – Monitor project budgets, forecast cost to complete, and ensure cost control measures are in place. Review project procurement process.
- Contractual Oversight - Oversee project teams through head contract administration. Ensure contract compliance, manage variations, and dispute resolution.
- Stakeholder Management – Collaborate and develop working relationships, acting as the key commercial point of contact for projects.
- Team Leadership & Development –Provide leadership to the delivery team, ensuring effective communication, cross-functional collaboration, training and continuous improvement.
What we are looking for:
- Tertiary qualifications in Building and Construction, Quantity Surveying or ProjectManagement, Certificate IV or higher.
- Minimum 10 years’ experience within the Construction Industry (preferably in the commercial fit-out and refurbishment sector) with a minimum of 5 years experience as a Contracts administrator and/or Contracts Manager.
- Working experience in MS Project, Excel, Outlook and Word are essential, experience in JobPac and Aconex desirable.
- Commercially astute when dealing with external parties and being aware of “commercial in confidence” matters
- Establish effective relationships with clients, stakeholders, business and work colleagues
