Projects Refurbishment Australia Post Hobart GPO

Originally built in 1906, the Hobart GPO building holds significant heritage and cultural value and is considered as one of the most treasured properties on the Australia Post portfolio. Renascent Australia entered into internal and external works, refurbishing the GPO building over an 11 month period which was constructed of Linden Stone sourced from the original quarry in Port Arthur, Tasmania, and features a slate roof with tiles and lead cappings that were sourced from Wales.

Renascent were engaged as Construction Managers to complete the project, which included complete a roof restoration, significant sandstone façade repair works, clock tower refurbishment, timber window renewal and re-decoration. Throughout the project, Renascent was actively involved with discussions and negotiations with Hobart City Council, Worksafe Tasmania and Heritage Tasmania to ensure the works were undertaken to the highest standards of craftsmanship with sympathy towards the refurbishing of period buildings. Renascent employed the finest craftsmen available for the Slate and Lead Roof Work, as well as the sandstone restoration and masonry repair. The duration of the project was undertaken whilst the Hobart Australia Post Office and Retail Store remained fully operational.
